Become a tutor with Eduprime Singapore

The IB Diploma is a different animal from the local track, and Eduprime is hiring tutors in Singapore who have taught it rather than read about it. A candidate carries six subjects at Higher or Standard Level, each with its own internally assessed component, and on top of that the core — Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, CAS. A student can be articulate in class and still lose a grade band because nobody walked them through an IA deadline or a research question too broad to answer in 4,000 words. Our tutors teach subject content to HL depth, supervise coursework without ever writing it, and read the assessment criteria the way a moderator reads them.

What draws IB teachers to this work

  • You teach a full two-year arc rather than a revision sprint — most IB families engage a tutor in DP1 and keep them through the November or May session.
  • Criterion-referenced marking rewards a tutor who can explain why a piece of work sits in one band and not the next, a skill the mark-scheme world rarely pays for.
  • Families here run every curriculum in Singapore, so IB specialists are scarcer than A-Level ones and the rate reflects it: S$50 – S$120 per hour, paid in SGD, on schedule.
  • You choose your own load. Some of our tutors take two HL students a week; others build a full afternoon timetable across the island.
  • We do the finding, matching and follow-up, so your unpaid hours go into planning lessons instead of chasing enquiries.

The role

The work, from HL content to the final submission

  • Teach your subject at the level the student is actually sitting — HL and SL diverge in content and in the depth of response expected, and Maths AA and AI are separate courses that deserve separate preparation.
  • Coach the internal assessment through its stages: narrowing the research question, choosing a method that generates analysable data or argument, and evaluating honestly against the published criteria.
  • Support Extended Essay work within the IB's rules on academic integrity — questioning, prompting and pointing to sources, never drafting, rewriting or editing text on the student's behalf.
  • Help students prepare for their reflection sessions and the viva voce by getting them to articulate their own decisions and dead ends in their own words.
  • Build TOK reasoning into subject teaching where it fits: knowledge questions, the limits of a method, why a scientific claim and a historical claim are justified differently.
  • Work through past-paper technique in the closing months — command terms, timing across Papers 1 to 3, and the gap between a described answer and an evaluated one.

What we check before we match you

  • Direct experience with the IB Diploma — teaching it in a school, examining or moderating for it, or completing it yourself and tutoring it since.
  • Command of one or more DP subjects to HL standard, named specifically: Maths AA HL, Physics HL, Economics SL, English A Language and Literature, and so on.
  • Working familiarity with the current subject guide and its assessment criteria, including how the internal assessment is weighted in your subject.
  • A clear line on academic honesty. If you are not comfortable telling a stressed student that you cannot write a paragraph of their IA, this role is not for you.
  • Reliability with families: turning up, tracking progress against the school's internal deadlines, and flagging early when a student is drifting.
  • Eligible to work in Singapore, and able to travel to lessons or teach online with a stable setup.

Pay

Rates for IB Diploma tutoring

S$50 – S$120 per hour

Where you sit in that band depends on the subject, whether the student is at HL or SL, and how much of the engagement is coursework supervision rather than content teaching. Rare HL combinations and late-stage IA or EE support sit at the upper end. Every rate is agreed in writing before the first lesson, quoted in SGD, and paid on a fixed schedule — no deductions we did not tell you about.

How it works

From enquiry to first lesson

  1. 01

    Send us your subjects

Apply through the contact form on this site. Tell us which DP subjects you can teach, at HL or SL, and whether you have supervised internal assessments or Extended Essays before.

  2. 02

    We check the background

Our team verifies your teaching or examining history and confirms the subjects and levels you have claimed. We ask about your IB experience in enough detail that a family never has to.

  3. 03

    We match you to students

You are matched by subject and by area, so an IB Physics HL student in your part of Singapore reaches you rather than a general science enquiry from across the island.

  4. 04

    Agree the schedule and begin

You settle timing and location directly with the family, then start teaching. Our team stays reachable through the engagement for anything that needs sorting out.

Questions

Questions IB tutors put to us

How far can I go in helping with an internal assessment or Extended Essay?

You can teach the skills, interrogate the research question, discuss method, point to sources and explain what each criterion is asking for. You cannot draft, rewrite or edit the student's text. School supervisors already work inside tight limits — comments on a single draft rather than corrections — and we expect tutors to stay well within them. A student whose diploma is voided for academic misconduct helps nobody.

Can I tutor Maths AA and Maths AI interchangeably?

Only if you genuinely know both. They are distinct courses with different content and different exploration expectations, and students notice quickly when a tutor teaches AA habits into an AI paper. Tell us which one you are strong in, and at which level, and we match accordingly.

Do you place tutors for TOK and the core?

Yes, though demand is thinner than for subjects. TOK carries real consequence — a failing grade in it can cost a student the diploma outright, and its combination with the Extended Essay is worth up to three points on top of the 42 available from the six subjects. Tutors who can steer an exhibition or a prescribed-title essay should say so when they apply.

Are students on the May or the November session?

Both. Singapore's international schools split across the two examination sessions, so enquiries arrive in two waves rather than one. That tends to smooth out the feast-and-famine cycle familiar from a single national exam calendar.

Do I need to be a current IB school teacher?

No. Classroom and examining experience carries a lot of weight with us, and so does a former DP teacher, a subject specialist who has tutored the syllabus for years, or a strong graduate who sat the diploma themselves. What we verify is that you know the current guide and the criteria.

What do lessons look like in practice?

One-to-one or small groups, at the student's home or online, anywhere in Singapore. Sessions usually run weekly through the two-year programme, intensifying around IA submission windows and the run-up to the written papers.
