A-Level Economics separates students at exactly one skill: evaluation. Almost every JC student can draw a demand curve and label the axes. Far fewer can finish a part (b) — state the condition under which their own conclusion flips, weigh which effect dominates, and say honestly what the argument assumed. Eduprime is hiring Economics tutors for H1 (8843) and H2 (9570) who can teach that second half of the answer, and who treat the case-study paper and the essay paper as two different crafts rather than one subject with two exam durations.

The part of Econs tuition worth doing

  • You get to fix the single highest-leverage weakness in the subject. A student who moves from pure analysis to genuine evaluation moves band, and the change is visible in a handful of scripts.
  • Policy here is teachable from what students can actually see. Singapore runs an exchange-rate centred monetary framework at MAS, so you are explaining the country the student lives in rather than importing an interest-rate story from a foreign textbook.
  • Small group or one-to-one, so you can mark a full 25-mark essay properly and talk through it — the format where Economics teaching actually works.
  • You choose your load and your area. Hourly rates in SGD, paid on time, no chasing.
  • NIE-trained tutors and MOE ex-teachers who know the mark scheme from the inside are preferred, and are placed at the upper end of the range.

The role

What the teaching actually involves

  • Train case-study technique on the H2 Paper 1 extracts and the H1 case studies: reading the data before the question, quoting an extract as evidence and then inferring from it, and answering only what a command word asks for.
  • Build essay craft for H2 Paper 2 — planning a 25-mark answer under time, splitting a two-part question so part (b) is not a rerun of part (a), and putting a reasoned stand at the end instead of a summary.
  • Drill the diagram-to-argument link so a diagram earns its marks: correct labelling, the shift explained by a mechanism, and the welfare or price-level consequence read off the diagram in words.
  • Teach the micro spine properly — elasticity applied to real pricing decisions, market failure via externalities, public goods and information failure, and firm behaviour across market structures.
  • Teach the macro spine — AD/AS, the macro aims and their trade-offs, and Singapore's policy mix of exchange-rate centred monetary policy alongside supply-side and fiscal measures in a small, very open economy.
  • Give written feedback that names the missing skill — application, analysis, evaluation — rather than a mark alone, and re-test the same skill on the next question.

Who tends to be a good fit

  • Strong A-Level Economics of your own, or an economics-related degree, plus current familiarity with how H1 and H2 papers are set and marked.
  • You can mark and rebuild a 25-mark essay: recognise where an answer stalled at analysis, and show the student the sentences that would have earned evaluation marks.
  • Comfortable with case-study data — percentage change, index numbers, simple elasticity inference — and with saying what a table does and does not support.
  • Able to explain the MAS framework accurately and to correct students who have absorbed a US-style interest-rate account from online notes.
  • Reliable with a JC timetable: consistent slots, prompt communication with families, honest updates on where a student stands.
  • NIE training or MOE teaching experience is preferred, and not required if your subject command and marking judgement are strong.

Pay

Rates

S$45 – S$110 per hour

Paid hourly in SGD, on schedule. Where you sit in the range depends on the level you take, your credentials and your track record — NIE-trained tutors and MOE ex-teachers are placed at the upper end. H2 work and marking-heavy essay coaching sit higher than introductory JC1 support.

How it works

From application to first lesson

  1. 01

    Send us your application

Apply through the contact form on this site. Tell us whether you take H1, H2 or both, and which topics you are strongest on — market structures, market failure, macro policy, international trade.

  2. 02

    We check your background

Our team screens your background and verifies the subjects and teaching experience you have listed, including any NIE training or MOE service.

  3. 03

    We match you to students

You are matched with students by subject and area — JC1 building the micro foundation, JC2 deep in essay and case-study drilling, and promo or Prelim recovery cases.

  4. 04

    Agree the schedule and begin

You settle timing and format directly with the family — home or online — and start teaching, with our team supporting the arrangement as it runs.

Questions

Questions Economics tutors ask us

Do I need to teach both the case-study paper and the essay paper?

No. Some tutors are strongest on H2 Paper 2 essay construction, others on extract handling and data interpretation. Tell us which, and we match accordingly. H1 candidates sit case studies only, so tutors who prefer that work can be placed on H1 assignments.

How much marking is expected, and is it paid?

Economics tuition without marked writing does not move grades, so we expect you to set and mark essays or case-study parts. Rates are hourly for lesson time; most tutors fold review of a marked script into the following session rather than marking unpaid at scale.

Can I teach H2 if I only took H1 myself?

Usually not on its own. H2 adds the essay paper and a heavier evaluation demand, so we look for a degree background or A-Level H2 Economics, plus evidence you can mark to the assessment objectives. H1-only tutors are still placed on H1 and JC1 assignments.

Students arrive with notes from other tuition centres. Do I have to follow them?

You teach your own approach. Where a student's imported material is wrong on Singapore policy — a common one is describing MAS as setting interest rates — we expect you to correct it plainly rather than teach around it.

Is Eduprime affiliated with MOE or SEAB?

No. Eduprime is an independent private tuition provider. We teach to the published SEAB syllabuses, and we claim no accreditation, endorsement or partnership from MOE or SEAB, nor do we guarantee grades.

Can I take assignments only during the JC crunch periods?

Yes. Demand rises sharply before promos, Prelims and the A-Level papers, and some tutors take short intensive blocks then. Work is flexible part-time contract, so you set what you can hold.
