From the Bras Basah and Bencoolen platforms under your own campus you are a short ride from Toa Payoh, Novena, Bishan and Kallang homes, and Dhoby Ghaut puts three lines within walking distance. A 6.30pm session in a central estate costs you a commute most students elsewhere cannot match.
SMU grades you on speaking in a room of forty-odd people, defending a position and taking the counter-argument without freezing. That is the same skill an H2 Economics or General Paper student needs to build an evaluated argument, and you have been rehearsing it every week since year one.
Because you build your own week through bidding, many SMU students end up with classes stacked into two or three days and whole weekday afternoons free. Those afternoons and early evenings are exactly when secondary and JC students want tuition, and weekday slots are the hardest ones for us to fill.

Yes, and it is often a strength. Your core modules push you to evaluate a decision rather than describe it, which is precisely where H2 candidates lose marks in the essay and case-study papers. We will ask you to work through a past-year question against the MOE syllabus so we can see how you structure evaluation before we place you with a student.
You tell us your exam dates when the term calendar is confirmed and we plan the pause with the family in advance, ideally before recess week. Most parents accept a two- or three-week break if it is scheduled early; what damages a placement is cancelling on a Sunday night because a paper crept up on you. Some tutors instead move to fewer, shorter online sessions during that stretch.
That period is one of the most useful in the year for us. Families want intensive work over the June school holidays, and SMU students who are only taking a special-term module or serving an internship in the CBD can often do late-afternoon or evening sessions nearby. If you are overseas on exchange or an internship abroad, we can hold your profile and restart when you return.
No. Most SMU students commute rather than live on campus, so we usually build your assignments around two anchors: homes near your own MRT line, and homes reachable from Bras Basah on the days you are already in the city. Tell us both when you apply and you will be considered for placements that actually fit your week rather than ones you resent travelling to.
GP rewards the same habit SMU marks you on: a defensible position supported by current, specific evidence. Law, Social Sciences and Economics students take to it readily, but so do Computing students who read widely. Expect to set and mark timed essays and give written feedback on argument structure, not just grammar, so be honest with us about whether you enjoy marking prose.
