Why tutor while you study

Built for SUSS students

Built around a degree you are doing alongside a job

A large share of SUSS undergraduates and postgraduates are working adults studying part-time, so the evenings already have claims on them. Eduprime is happy for a SUSS tutor to hold one or two students they can genuinely keep, term after term, instead of a caseload that collapses the first busy month at work.

Your working life is the qualification

Most tutors have only ever met their subject inside a classroom. A SUSS student who has run a budget, written for a client, or managed people can show an Economics or English candidate what the syllabus is actually describing — and secondary and JC students hear the difference.

Clementi Road, and the west it sits in

The campus on Clementi Road puts you inside the arc of Clementi, Dover, West Coast, Bukit Batok and Jurong, where families are looking for tutors close by. Students who come in for evening classes can pair a lesson with a campus night rather than making a separate trip across the island.

Questions

Tutoring as an SUSS student — FAQ

I work full-time and study at SUSS part-time. Is one student even worth applying for?

Yes, and it is the caseload we expect from most SUSS applicants. One steady weekly student who stays with you for two or three terms is worth more to a family than a tutor who takes five and starts cancelling. Tell us your real ceiling when you apply and we will match to it rather than push past it.

My SUSS classes run in the evenings — the same slot tuition usually wants. How does that work?

Tuition demand in Singapore does cluster on weekday evenings, so this is a genuine constraint rather than something to talk around. The usual answers are Saturday and Sunday daytime slots, which many families prefer for primary and PSLE work, and online lessons on the evenings your own class does not sit. If your semester timetable shifts, we re-match you rather than expect you to absorb it.

I am in my thirties or forties and sat my own O-Levels a long time ago. Is that a problem?

It is closer to an advantage. Parents of secondary and JC students are often wary of a tutor who is only two years past the exam themselves. What we do ask is that you re-read the current MOE syllabus for your subject before your first lesson, because papers and formats have moved since your cohort, and we would rather you rebuild on the current version than teach the one you remember.

Does Eduprime deal with SUSS directly, or check anything with the school?

Neither. Eduprime has no partnership, affiliation or endorsement from SUSS, and this page is not run with the university. You apply as an individual, we verify your own academic record and identity, and your standing with SUSS is between you and SUSS. If your programme, employer or any bond you hold restricts outside paid work, that is yours to check before you accept students.

My degree is in social sciences, not the subject I would be teaching. What can I take?

Economics and English are the closest matches for most SUSS programmes, and both are subjects where an adult reader outperforms a fresh graduate. Primary-level Mathematics and PSLE preparation are also open if your own numeracy is solid — you will be teaching method and exam habit more than advanced content. We ask about subject confidence honestly at application and would rather narrow your list than have you carry a subject you are guessing at.
